Icon or Wonder of the Seas? Start With Appetite, Then Count the Extras

AquaDome Market, The Mason Jar, Wonderland and the casual backup that may be exactly what the day needs.

A ship with plenty to eat still requires somebody to decide what dinner is supposed to do. Is this the evening for a long, inventive meal? A Southern-style supper? Or is everyone tired enough that a good quick bite would improve family relations immediately?

Icon of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas both offer included food and separately charged specialty dining. Their restaurant mixes differ. Icon’s AquaDome Market should not quietly migrate into a Wonder plan just because both booking confirmations say Royal Caribbean.

Give Wonder’s specialty meals a specific job

Wonder’s lineup includes The Mason Jar, with distinct brunch and supper menus, and Wonderland, an imaginative prix-fixe dinner experience. These offer different reasons to sit down. I would choose between them by the food and kind of evening the party wants, not by a general determination to use every specialty venue.

The Mason Jar’s meal period matters. A brunch plan, a supper plan and a drink at the bar are not identical purchases. Check service on your sailing, the reservation, and which part any package covers. Wonderland also needs its own allowance for the actual experience; a multi-course dinner deserves more than the gap left between two other activities.

A casual option is a useful preference

Park Café appears among Wonder’s complimentary casual food options. For an afternoon when the group wants a smaller meal and its time back, that can be a stronger choice than a specialty reservation nobody is hungry enough to appreciate.

Icon has its own mix, including included food options at AquaDome Market, the Main Dining Room and Windjammer, with additional-charge venues such as Chops Grille. Choose from that ship’s actual directory and the sailing’s arrangements. A shared brand gives you a starting point, not permission to copy the entire restaurant list.

I would keep a casual meal visible in either plan. It is easier to enjoy a special dinner when the previous meal was allowed to be ordinary.

A package still has to match the people eating

Royal Caribbean’s published dining information distinguishes specialty venues and notes that availability varies by ship. Before buying a package, check the specific restaurants, meal periods, reservation arrangements, extra purchases and guest terms. The package name is not a table booking.

Then compare the party’s real plan. If two guests want one specialty dinner and the other two do not, an all-party package needs a very good explanation. Include drinks and confirmed service charges as appropriate to the actual offer. Avoid adding mandatory service again as an optional tip merely because the form offers another box.

Count the evenings you can comfortably use

An itinerary with long port days and a group that likes evening shows may have fewer relaxed specialty opportunities than a restaurant directory suggests. Put the dinner duration beside the return and show times. Keep a backup that does not depend on another unconfirmed reservation.

My choice would follow the appetite: Wonder for the particular appeal of The Mason Jar or Wonderland, Icon when its own food mix and the rest of the ship fit the trip better. Either can supply plenty of decisions. The achievement is leaving enough time to enjoy the meal after making them.

Put this into the meal plan

Open the ship you are sailing and choose the dinners people will actually sit down for before you price a package. The included venues are a perfectly respectable backup.
