Seven Seas Grandeur or Mariner? Start With the Dinner You Actually Want

Grandeur has Pacific Rim. Mariner has a different range of choices. The useful comparison is what you can eat, book and enjoy across the evenings you actually have.

A restaurant count is a remarkably efficient way to avoid discussing dinner. Eight sounds more generous than seven, and then everyone spends the evening negotiating a table at the same steakhouse. I would rather start with the meal somebody is genuinely looking forward to.

Regent’s published dining lists make that approach useful. Seven Seas Grandeur includes Pacific Rim alongside Chartreuse, Prime 7, Compass Rose and the evening Sette Mari service at La Veranda. Mariner shares several of those familiar names, but its own list does not include Pacific Rim. That is a real distinction for someone who wants Pan-Asian dining. It is a much smaller distinction for the person happily planning a steakhouse night and an Italian evening.

Pacific Rim is a reason; a longer list is not yet one

If Pacific Rim is the restaurant that makes you open the menu twice, Grandeur has an advantage worth considering. Put that dinner into the plan before giving the ship credit for variety you will never use. A short sailing with ambitious port days may leave surprisingly few evenings for specialty meals.

Mariner is not left serving an apology. Its published lineup includes French dining at Chartreuse, steakhouse dining at Prime 7, and Italian evenings at Sette Mari. These are also names you can encounter on Grandeur; the comparison is about the available mix, not a claim that every Mariner restaurant is exclusive to Mariner.

I would choose the smaller lineup quite comfortably if it covers the food the party wants and the rest of the sailing fits better. Paying attention to dinner does not require allowing dinner to impersonate the entire holiday.

Included is a price arrangement, not a table assignment

Regent’s published fare benefits include specialty restaurant dining. That makes the next question more interesting than the usual cover-charge calculation: which tables can you actually reserve, on which nights, and with whom? Prime 7, Chartreuse and Pacific Rim use reservations. Sette Mari does not follow the same advance specialty-reservation arrangement.

Check the booking allocation and any suite or loyalty priority against your own sailing. A restaurant being included does not establish unlimited advance reservations, a preferred time or permission to repeat it every evening. Leave a flexible dinner in the plan so a missed specialty booking does not become a family grievance with a wine list.

Give the port day an evening it can survive

An early specialty reservation after a long excursion is a lovely idea until the return journey acquires traffic. Put the actual expected return, time to change, and the meal duration beside the reservation. A relaxed Compass Rose evening may be a better use of that night than a table everyone reaches flustered.

For the bill, record confirmed incremental charges rather than adding the entire cruise fare to every included dinner. Premium selections and optional experiences still need checking. For the party, ask about the actual menu and preparation needs directly; a familiar restaurant name does not answer those questions.

My decision would be simple: choose Grandeur when its extra culinary range changes the evenings you want. Choose Mariner when its lineup already covers them. Then spend the planning effort on the reservations that make those evenings possible.

Put this into the meal plan

Open the ship you are actually sailing. Choose the specialty dinner you would book first, give it a casual backup on board, and leave anything Regent has not confirmed for your sailing blank. Deep Dish keeps the plan straight; the reservation is still yours to make.
